Modern day overland expeditions started in the 1960's, and were largely the preserve of the counter-culture (hippies to you and me) or the privileged - often they were one and the same thing. But things have come a long way since then. No longer are they 'booze buses' or longhaul 18-30 trips. The overland expedition of this century is for those travellers looking to see the areas they have chosen to visit from the ground up, hence the name.

Off the beaten track

An overused phrase in the travel & tourism industry, but not when you are talking about overland expeditions. That is, kind of, the whole point. The modern day overlanding vehicles are rugged but sophisticated, allowing the expedition to go where coach tours and self-drive itineraries simply can't get to - i.e. off the beaten track.

So why Overland?

Overland expeditions offer great value for money and typically are half the price of a similarly routed coach tour; you will most likely be travelling with like-minded individuals; the average age of the overlander these days is early to mid-thirties, meaning some are older than this & some are younger, but it is no longer the exclusive preserve of youth; you get to see the countries from a more 'realistic' perspective; adventures galore; and finally, why not?
